The goal of Schroth exercises is to de-rotate, elongate and stabilize the spine in a three-dimensional plane. This is achieved through physical therapy that focuses on:

Restoring muscular symmetry and alignment of posture
Breathing into the concave side of the body
Teaching you to be aware of your posture

This approach to scoliosis treatment was developed by Katharina Schroth and further popularized by her daughter Christa. Born in Germany in late 1800s, Katharina Schroth had scoliosis that was unsuccessfully treated with bracing. She developed her own breathing technique and exercises to manage her scoliosis. She and her daughter opened a clinic, where they treated more than 150 patients at a time.

Barral Viceral Manipulation assists functional and structural imbalances throughout the body including musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urogenital, respiratory, digestive and lymphatic dysfunction. It evaluates and treats the dynamics of motion and suspension in relation to organs, membranes, fascia and ligaments. VM increases proprioceptive communication within the body, thereby revitalizing a person and relieving symptoms of pain, dysfunction, and poor posture.

An integrative approach to evaluation and treatment of a patient requires assessment of the structural relationships between the viscera, and their fascial or ligamentous attachments to the musculoskeletal system. Strains in the connective tissue of the viscera can result from surgical scars, adhesions, illness, posture or injury. Tension patterns form through the fascial network deep within the body, creating a cascade of effects far from their sources for which the body will have to compensate. This creates fixed, abnormal points of tension that the body must move around, and this chronic irritation gives way to functional and structural problems.

Paul believes in taking the time to individually tailor each treatment session to the patient’s specific requirements. A typical first appointment is spent taking a medical history, and understanding the patient’s imbalances within their body by physical examination and subjective evaluation. Paul adjusts each treatment in order to better balance the energy/chi and guide the patient towards overall wellness. Any interruption or depletion or stagnation of Chi can lead to disease, fatigue, or stress. The goal of each treatment is to align mind, body, and spirit, and maintain a free flow of Chi. Results can be felt in as little as two treatments, but a course of three to five are recommended to begin feeling results. The treatments are all natural and pain free and often a feeling of deep relaxation can occur. Only single use disposable needles are used and the needles are thinner than a strand of hair. Paul is a former National Champion swimmer and has maintained a life-long interest in natural health and physical fitness. Some of his hobbies include dogs, kayaking, sailing, gardening and fast cars!
