The Schroth Method is a nonsurgical option for scoliosis treatment. It uses exercises customized for each patient to return the curved spine to a more natural position. The goal of Schroth exercises is to de-rotate, elongate and stabilize the spine in a three-dimensional plane. This is achieved through physical therapy that focuses on:

Restoring muscular symmetry and alignment of posture
Breathing into the concave side of the body
Teaching you to be aware of your posture

This approach to scoliosis treatment was developed by Katharina Schroth and further popularized by her daughter Christa. Born in Germany in late 1800s, Katharina Schroth had scoliosis that was unsuccessfully treated with bracing. She developed her own breathing technique and exercises to manage her scoliosis. She and her daughter opened a clinic, where they treated more than 150 patients at a time.

Barral Viceral Manipulation assists functional and structural imbalances throughout the body including musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urogenital, respiratory, digestive and lymphatic dysfunction. It evaluates and treats the dynamics of motion and suspension in relation to organs, membranes, fascia and ligaments. VM increases proprioceptive communication within the body, thereby revitalizing a person and relieving symptoms of pain, dysfunction, and poor posture.

An integrative approach to evaluation and treatment of a patient requires assessment of the structural relationships between the viscera, and their fascial or ligamentous attachments to the musculoskeletal system. Strains in the connective tissue of the viscera can result from surgical scars, adhesions, illness, posture or injury. Tension patterns form through the fascial network deep within the body, creating a cascade of effects far from their sources for which the body will have to compensate. This creates fixed, abnormal points of tension that the body must move around, and this chronic irritation gives way to functional and structural problems.

Paul Lewis is a Registered Acupuncturist and Osteopath in Ontario who has been treating clients for over 20 years. He graduated from the New Earth College in Toronto culminating with a graduate program of study in Traditional Chinese Acupuncture (1200 hrs) earning a Diploma of Acupuncture. Subsequently, Paul earned his Doctorate of Natural Medicine and his Manual Osteopath certification (DO-MTP) all from the New Earth College. He is a member in good standing of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario, the Canadian Society of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, the General Osteopathic Council of Ontario, the Examining Board of Natural Medicine Practitioners. (EBNMP), and the World Tung’s Acupuncture Association. Paul has worked at a variety of physiotherapy, chiropractic, sports, and wellness clinics including currently for 15 years, a leading Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto. Conditions Paul treats include stress and anxiety, insomnia, depression, fertility, low back, neck, shoulder and knee pain, spinal realignment, migraines, amputee rehab, fitness & sports injuries, digestive disorders, auto-immune disorders, and arthritis. Paul believes in taking the time to individually tailor each treatment session to the patient’s specific requirements. A typical first appointment is spent taking a medical history, and understanding the patient’s imbalances within their body by physical examination and subjective evaluation. Paul adjusts each treatment in order to better balance the energy/chi and guide the patient towards overall wellness. Any interruption or depletion or stagnation of Chi can lead to disease, fatigue, or stress. The goal of each treatment is to align mind, body, and spirit, and maintain a free flow of Chi. Results can be felt in as little as two treatments, but a course of three to five are recommended to begin feeling results. The treatments are all natural and pain free and often a feeling of deep relaxation can occur. Only single use disposable needles are used and the needles are thinner than a strand of hair. Paul is a former National Champion swimmer and has maintained a life-long interest in natural health and physical fitness. Some of his hobbies include dogs, kayaking, sailing, gardening and fast cars!

Ryan graduated from the university of Western Ontario in 2009 with an honor specialization in Medical Sciences under the Schulich faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. In his last year of undergraduate studies, he completed his thesis on variables that impact the quality of life in patients suffering from congestive heart failure. He later went on to do his Masters in Physiology studying gender dependent surgical approaches for knee replacements in patients suffering from Osteoarthritis. He completed his master’s program and the highly innovative Joint and Motion Program funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research. For his research he received the Western Graduate Research Scholarship, Schulich Graduate Research Scholarship and Canadian Institute of Health Research Joint and Motion Program Bursary.

After completing his Naturopathic Program, he dedicated the focus of his practice in mid-life health with an emphasis on cardiovascular health, glandular and hormonal health, diabetes, and weight loss. As part of cardiovascular health, he has helped patients lower their blood pressure, cholesterol and improve peripheral circulation. To support patients with weight loss, he focuses on liver detox, regulating cortisol levels, improve insulin sensitivity and reduce gut inflammation. For auto-immune disorders he first identifies the cause of dysregulation followed by harmonizing the immune system and reducing inflammation.

In addition to his Naturopathic treatment, he received training and certification to perform and analyse Live Blood Cell Microscope to identify the cause inflammation, identify risk of heavy metal in the blood, and parasites. This diagnostic tool has been critical in identifying the root cause of metabolic dysregulation as seen with exercise resistant weight gain and chronic fatigue.

Ryan’s treatments focus on life-style modification, patient education, herbal and homeopathic interventions, nutritional and exercise guidance. In addition, his extensive training with Traditional Chinese Medicine will be used to accelerate the rate of recovery and rehabilitation. This will include diagnostic based acupuncture, cupping (for muscle and joint pain), and specific nutritional recommendations to create balance between yin and yang.

High blood pressure, High cholesterol
